HISTORY

Carriage Trade Public Auto Auction is a family owned and operated business. We have been selling cars to dealers and the public for over 38 years. Carriage Trade was founded in 1969 by Dom Conicelli as a small used car lot that was contracted with banks to store repossessed vehicles. Dom had the idea to auction these vehicles to the public as well as dealers, so the banks could maximize the amount of money they received for the vehicles. Carriage Trade’s inaugural sale was held in 1977 with a grand total of 35 vehicles.

Today Carriage Trade is owned by Dom Conicelli’s three children who recognize the value of our customers as the backbone of our success. Carriage Trade offers over 800 vehicles weekly, with the auction held every Monday starting at 5:00pm. We are conveniently located just outside of Philadelphia with easy access from both the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Route 476 (The Blue Route).

We are small enough to give you the personal attention you will not find at the big auction houses; yet big enough to handle all of your wholesale needs. Our transportation department has 2 nine-car carriers, 2 four-car carriers and 6 flat-beds. We have a recon facility for basic cleanings to full details and on site ASE mechanics to handle any mechanical issues, both big and small. Our market supports all types of vehicles from the cheapest vehicles to the late model, high dollar cars. Our lanes are always full with dealers and public people anxious to buy. THE AUCTION PROCESS

1. Register for membership

Membership is $30 and last one year. You can buy and sell as many vehicles you like under the membership. You do not need to register if you simply wish to observe, and there is no charge for admittance. Sign-up online

2. Select a car you want to buy

Our auctions vary in size, but on average, we offer between 600 – 800 vehicles per sale. There are five different lanes, where five different vehicles are offered for sale simultaneously. Each vehicles windshield has a Lane and Run Number, and the Year of the vehicle. For example, Lane 3, Number 25, or, 3-25, indicates that this car will be the 25th vehicle offered for sale in lane 3. Vehicles run in numerical order. You can view our Auction List page prior to a sale to see what vehicles are going to be offered, or you can view the vehicles the day of the sale before the auction starts. Sale catalogs are available on the day of the auction.

3. Bid on the desired vehicle

Be in the appropriate lane when the vehicle is being offered for sale and bid till you reach your desired price. Although you can expect to save lots of money at auction, you can not buy a vehicle at 50% of its true wholesale value. Provided you have realistic expectations, you are sure to realize huge savings compared to regular retail prices.

4. Pay a deposit to hold your vehicle

Go to auction podium, leave a $500 deposit, and receive a copy of your bill of sale.

5. Complete the purchase

Go into the office and finish paying for your vehicle. Appropriate tag and taxes are collected at this time.
